TIP:
Once the type of fibre optic cable for a community has been
chosen, stick with that same type of cable. Different types
of fibre have different core sizes, which is the part of the
cable that sends the signal. The cores on spliced cable must
be the same in order for the information to transmit properly.

|
TIP:
When putting up either self-supporting cable or messenger supported
cable, each puts different loads on power poles. An engineer
will need to check to make sure that any existing poles can
handle the load of the cable being installed. |
|
TIP:
When purchasing fibre optic patch cables, make sure that those
purchased have the acceptance testing test results right on
the package, and that the test results are well within the allowable
tolerances for your loss budget!! |
|
TIP:
Allow at least four hours to complete an exterior splice enclosure,
and allow longer if the weather is poor, or if the installers
working on the enclosure are not very experienced. |
|
TIP:
When the fibre is properly cleaned, the
individual strands will fall apart like individual hairs, and
will stay separated. If the
individual strands are still sticking together, then the fibre
is not yet clean. |
