This module is designed to help rural and remote
communities understand how a cable infrastructure may be used as
a means for a community to deliver broadband Internet signals to
a community.
Coaxial Cable technology, like all broadband
technology, may require partnerships with other private or public
businesses or organizations in order to complete the installation.
This means that in addition to the physical installation, legal
or contractual agreements may be an important part of system creation,
and will in many cases have to be taken into account when planning
a system, both from time and money perspectives.
An overview is provided and ideas are presented
in this module of what partnerships may need to be looked at to
get a system up and running, and what may be required to make these
agreements work. Additionally, the "nuts and bolts" of
the coaxial system are presented from beginning to end: how to bring
a signal "out of the air" into a system that is designed
to deliver the signal, how to build that system, and how to build
the systems required both for delivering the signals within a community,
and for ensuring that they can be picked up once they've reached
their destination.
The beauty of this type of system is that the
installation of individual components in the plant can be quite
simple to perform. Additionally, a high level of technical knowledge
is not necessarily required to make the system work, as long as
there is a basic understanding of how the system functions. This
will ensure make system troubleshooting much easier.
